<div><span>I would say that they are cracks through age. They are starting from the cuts/striations as there will be many tiny weak spots along the length where small chips of bone have flaked away through manufacture or use. Similar to the way a porthole in a ship would start to crack at the corners if it they were angled rather than rounded. <br>
