<p>It reminds me of the cancellous bone hide grainers used on the Northern North American Plains. I've attached a brief article that describes their use that has some nice drawings, and a rather low quality scan that I made of a slide of some of the abraders
from the mid-late 19th c Deapolis site years ago before I had access to a decent slide scanner. I have photos of the wear on some of these tools if that would be helpful.<br>

Does anyone know any parallells or suggestions for the use of this object? It is a chopped of caput with a big area of intensive use wear. It is not precisely dated, but it is (early) medieval. From the same context a second one has been recovered.
