<div>Hello Alice, <br><br>It is something I have seen suggested for Viking and
later periods (see attached pages from “Viking age combs, comb making and comb
makers in the light of finds from Birka and Ribe” by K Ambrosiani), but I am not
sure how much actual “proof” there is of it from any source rather than just a
theory. It is also mentioned that they could be net sinkers, and in the past I
have found it suggested that they could be horse hobbles (apparently this has
happened in Iceland until quite recently, see photo).<br><br>Regards,</div>
