Saxon bone/antler die. As can be seen, there is reddish
pigmentation in the decoration. I have looked around for
similar colouring and with the exception of a "lucet" from
London I cannot seem to find anything similar, just totally
stained objects e.g. the belt buckle from York. Does anyone
here know of any Early Medieval dated bone artefacts that are
either entirely stained/dyed or have coloured decoration such
as this?

With black, yes, much more frequent than red.

behind 1, at bottom 3 ? In that case, the 2 is along a 3-series of
dots of the thing (alexandrian joint) ; a fine "classical" classical
die.
behind medullar, in front cortical

Use may have worn away the colour on the surface, except where it is
protected (in the depressions) ; is there not some red left around
the dot 1 (on the slightly concave medullar surface) ?

On top (4), which is a transversal section, where the bone is the
hardest, the circles aere the best/deapest preserved.
Your's.
