d'articulation majeur de l'idée de végétal (vrai, le vert et
souple) et de l'animal (vrai, qui a du sang, de la chair et
des os à l'intérieur). L'ivoire est assimilé à un bois dense
et blanc, en symétrie avec l'ébène, à cent lieues de la
pierre. L'os ordinaire est comme du bois ordinaire, plutôt du
fust (<i>fustis</i>) que du merrain /<i> materiamenn</i>,
lequel garde son contraste principal de <i>materia</i> (bois
d'œuvre) par rapport à <i>lignum</i> (bois de chauffe).<o:p></o:p></span></p>

est inverse dans son énonciation, et introduit, peut-être en
liaison avec le fait que le Brésil est outre mer, le milieu

articule végétal et animal). En ce temps-là, le corail était
considéré comme virant au rouge et au dur en sortant de l'eau.
Dans ce nouvel état, il gardait une "note arborée" par son
caractère branchu (arborescence), et cette caractéristique de
forme se doublait d'un caractère de matière de pierre
dure/coquillage (cf. camées). <o:p></o:p></span></p>
