Dear all,

I have an object I would like to submit for scrutiny (pictures attached)! It is a hollow antler object, slightly oval in diameter, that looks a bit like a hose pipe end. It measures about 65mm in length, with two opposing holes for fixing at the edge and
has possible traces of red and black paint on the body. The object was recovered from one of our excavations on the site of Bermondsey Abbey and the Cluniac Priory of St Saviour, in Southwark, London. It came from a ploughsoil, just south of the Abbey Church,
with associated pottery dating from 1050-1150 AD. There is quite a lot of Roman residual material from the site, and I initially thought this might be a Roman object; however, the Roman specialists are all shaking their heads and throwing it back at me! Anybody
seen anything similar?

With best wishes and many thanks,
