The 11th International ASWA meeting will be held between June 23 – 28 at the University of Haifa, Israel. The meeting will bring together researchers interested in the relationship between humans and animals in ancient societies in Southwest Asia and adjacent regions. Archaeozoology, the study of animal remains from archaeological sites, is a synergy of the Humanities, Social and Biological Sciences seeking to investigate the evolution of human subsistence, paleoclimates, the rise of complex urban and market economies and human impact on ancient environments. A central theme of ASWA 2013 is Bones & Identity, reflecting a current and growing interest in the use of animal remains as proxies for reconstructing social and cultural variation among early complex and hierarchical societies.</div>
