Dear WBRG members,
as it has become a tradition to show a bonetool of the month from the hosting country of a WBRG conference, this month’s bonetool is a very beautiful and elaborately carved mysterious 2nd century AD object from Meaux:

If you have any ideas about the function of the artefact or comparative items, Lucie Altenburg <mailto:Lucie.Altenburg at paris.fr> and Jean François Goret <mailto:jean-francois.goret at paris.fr> are grateful for suggestions. Please share your thoughts also with the BONETOOLS list.
Nejma Goutas and Marianne Christensen suggested to dedicate this Bonetool of the Month to the honour of François Poplin, who sadly passed away on the 20th of April.
François Poplin was regular contributor to discussions on the BONETOOLS list and published a large amount of papers about bone artefacts, only a few of which are yet included into the WBRG reference database. With his death the WBRG has lost an important member. For an obituary and a list of his publications see here:

The final conference program of the upcoming WBRG meeting in Paris (13.-17. May) is now available online. You can download the program here:

Nejma and Marianne also informed me that Christiane Leroy-Prost will be the guest of honour at the WBRG meeting. Together with Henriette Camps-Fabrer, she was involved in promoting the study of the bone industry in France in the seventies. She was one of the rare people to be part of the renaissance of studies in the osseous industry with her work on the Aurignacian.
For all details about the Paris meeting, here are the conference websites once more:
