Dear WBRG members,
it has become a tradition on the WBRG website to feature an artefact from the hosting country in case a conference with worked bone related content is to be held. This month two worked bone sessions will be part of the UISPP conference in Timişoara, Romania. Therefore, Erika Gál kindly provided some medieval bird bone artefacts found in Romania as this month’s bonetool:

There are also some updates on the Worked Bone sessions at UISPP conference Timişoara from 3.-10. September 2023 to be announced:
Session 21-2 will be on 7th of September between 8.30-15.30. Session 6-1:Smoothing, Smoothed and Smoothers has been joined with session 21-2. See here for details:

The full program of the sessions can be downloaded here: https://uispp2023.uvt.ro/scientific-programme/ <https://uispp2023.uvt.ro/scientific-programme/>
While preparing this month’s bonetool I realised that I had forgotten about this rule in August, when a worked bone session was part of the ICAZ conference in Cairns, Australia. The featured bonetool of the month was however something presented in Cairns, although it came from Brazil. But we can of course catch up on this. So, if anybody has an artefact from Australia to offer, please let me know.
Another fitting part of an ivory figurine has been found in the cave Hohle Fels in Suebia:
