[Bonetools] Thames Bone Object

Dear Charlie,

this object reminds me very much of the medieval personal small "inkpots" made from antler or bone that were used, for example, by monks in scriptoriums.
Here, in the picture, are some finds from Poland.

Thank you for welcoming me into the group!


I’m a licensed mudlark on the River Thames in London. I found this curious bone object on the south bank of the river recently. It’s hollow and after cleaning out some mud and grit, a small carved bone plug came loose. This can be removed and slotted back in easily. I think the dark colour would suggest something at least a couple of hundred years old. If anyone has any ideas on what it might be, please let me know!
