Objet: [Bonetools] WBRG website updates February 2023
Dear WBRG members,
this month Erika Gál has displayed the medieval arrow bolt plane she recently published as bonetool of the month .
See: [ https://www.wbrg.net/bonetool-of-the-month-archives/ | https://www.wbrg.net/bonetool-of-the-month-archives/ ]
Erika also pointed me towards a Hungarian video about traditions in archery. At minute 3:39 the speaker Marx Tibor shows how such an arrow bolt plane works.

A second session related to bone artefacts will be held at the upcoming 2023 ICAZ Conference in Cairns , Australia (7-12 August). It is organized by Jennifer Hull end entitled

Details have been sent to the BONETOOLS list already by Jennifer on the 15th of January. The session is now also announced on the WBRG website at

It contains a summary of the details of all artefacts (function, raw material, species, skeletal element, provenance, dating, culture, contributor and references) and can be downloaded here:

Tarek Oueslati kindly informed me about a research on Roman folding knives found in Bavay Bagacum in northern France, published in Herbin et al. (2020). The raw material could be identified as aurochs ( Bos primigenius ) by genetic analysis. The research has been documented in a French video, which can be accessed here:

Grzegorz Osipowicz beautiful new project website " Life and death written in bones “ ( [ https://biotrapbones.umk.pl/ | https://biotrapbones.umk.pl/ ] ) concerned with " The technological and functional aspect of the osseous artefacts of Early and Middle Holocene hunter-gatherer-fishers communities inhabiting the East Baltic Plai n“ is now linked in the various links section:
