As the emails about bone whistles arrived I was searching for references to flutes or whistles made on bird bones in prehistoric Britain and Ireland. Can anyone suggest any examples?
I know that there is a bird bone flute from Thetford made on a tibiotarsus, perhaps of crane, but I have lost the reference. Again, any help would be gratefully received.

Bonjour Isabelle,
Un objet similaire (mais non décoré) est sorti d'une sépulture de l'âge du fer dans le Cambridgeshire il y a quelques années : publication jointe ici.
Remerciements,
Ian Riddler

Subject: [Bonetools] Bone whistle?
Dear all,
Does somebody know this type of artefact made on caprine's long bone, found in the East of France, and which dates of the middle Bronze Age? Could it be a whistle? Are whistles common in european Bronze Age? I am thinking also at a hinge. Is this could be a hinge? Are there any hinge identified in Bronze Age?
Any else idea of the function of such an artefact?
Thank you very much for your answers
Best wishes
Isabelle
