Dear all,
A question from a colleague. These objects have been described as 'weaving coils', but has anyone seen similar examples or has any idea about their function? The description from my colleague:
The ‘weaving coils’ were found in a waste dump located in a stream bed north of the city of Sittard (Southern part of the Netherlands). The waste dump has a wide date range (Late Bronze Age to Late Roman Period) but the coils are located in the lower parts of the waste dump and are probably Iron Age or even Late Bronze Age. One is made of red deer antler. The other, half finished one, is made of bone (catte rib) and shows several cut marks at both tapered ends.
Best wishes, Marloes
