Dear colleagues,

Hope you can help me with the identification of attached object. It was
found some years ago in the city of Hoorn (the Netherlands) and identified
as a "glis". I don't know the English word, but it's a predecessor of the
ice skate. It was found in medieval context.
I'm not convinced this is a glis. The polishing isn't flat but rounded and
covers most of the front and sides. There seems to have been pressure on or
near the two holes, as the bone is crushed here. The position of the holes
also makes it difficult to think of an construction that would attacht this
glis to a foot or sledge...

Does anyone know any parallels or can someone name a similar object? Any
leads would be very helpful!

Thank you very much in advance,

Kind regards,

Josje
