Dear WBRG members,
this month I assembled a little story about haddock bone carvings from Iceland as the final bonetool of the year.
https://www.wbrg.net/bonetool-of-the-month-archives/
Otherwise November has been calm and quiet as far as bonetools are concerned.
There are two references I would like to mention
# Daniel Makowiecki & Marzena Makowiecka (2017) published an article about drilled fish vertebrae from Poland. The article is in Polish with a substantial summary in English and many pictures.
• Makowiecki, Daniel & Makowiecka, Marzena (2017): Kręgi, paciorki, wisiorki, talizmany, czyli przyczynek do poznania pozautylitarnego znaczenia ryb u ludów prahistorycznych i wczesnohistorycznych na ziemiach polskich [Vertebrae, Beads, Pendants, Talismans, or a Contribution to the Study on Non-Utilitarian Significance of Fish among Prehistoric and Early Historical People on Polish Lands]. in: Rozanskiego, Artura (ed.): Gemma Gemmarum. Studia dedykowane Profesor Hannie Kocce-Krenz, 343-363, Poznan
# Definitely not new is a little article by Möller (1984) I came across by chance recently. It is dealing with the experimental weakening of antler and has been published at a very remote place in a local archaeological journal from Hamburg. But since it provides interesting technical data about the mechanical qualities of antler of different deer species I thought it might be useful to bring it to your attention. If anybody is interested I can provide you with a pdf.
• Möller, Claus (1984): Das Erweichen von Geweih durch Wasseraufnahme. - Hammaburg Neue Folge 6, 229-232
Best wishes.
Christian
