Dear Marta,

Another medieval example is a 10th/11th century container from the Netherlands:

Lots more examples from Germany, eastern Europe etc. But all medieval in date (7th - 12th century).

Best, Marloes

This piece really reminds me of antler containers which can be found in the Carpathian Basin - the only trouble is the date is all CE. in much later times these are considered powder horns. The holes at the ends are to attach stoppers on our specimens. The example I am sending is Avar which is 6th-8th c.in<http://c.in> our part of the world.

Dear colleagues,
I am studying worked bone and antler pieces from El Puntal dels Llops, an Iberian site (Valencia, Spain) (5th century - 2nd century BC). I am not sure about the function of one antler object. It has been made on antler of Cervus elaphus. It is normally interpreted as a pendant, but I have some doubts. The piece is totally casting, polishing and presents one perforation in two of its ends. I think that the piece would have more perforations (in its three ends, but they are broken). In addition, the object has and incised inscription in Iberian language. It is a very special object. Does anyone have any suggestions about its use or know any parallels?
I send you some images.
Thank you very much.
