[Bonetools] strange mails

Dear Alice,

I might be sharing your problem. Let me guess: the mails everyone is getting are coming from a mail-account with almost the same adress as yours, that is not yours but writes to your contacts?
For some months now, that´s happening to me. Strangely enough, the mails are focused on a group of people I had contact with in a certain period.

The one thing I realised: the only place my mail-adress can be found in the internet is on a page for this mailing list. Could be the origin of our problems?

Best wishes,

Mel

Dear all,
I know that strange mails have been appearing on your e-mails around the world. My e-mail has not been hacked nor have I suddenly gone insane. Apparently there are industrial size robotic operations that pick up e-mails and then start to work out the places those e-mails go and send these sinister exploratory e-mails looking for data from the recipients which I hope you have all been smart enough to delete instantly. If this problem persists I will explore possible solutions with the IT people here at the university next week after the long four day holiday here.

Many apologies,
Alice
