Hi all!

I'm in the midst of researching and writing a book chapter called "Now on
Exhibit: Our Affection for, Remembrance of and Tributes to Non-Human
Animals in Museums" and I'd love your input!

Here's a short working introduction to the chapter -

"Museums play an important role in preserving, interpreting and sharing the
collective memory of society. Many of these institutions - government-run,
public and private alike – have reflected upon our communal traditions,
momentous events and changing trends as they relate to death, mourning and
remembrance. Animals too are woven into this cultural and institutional
tapestry.

This chapter will look at specific animals who as objects in a collection
or on exhibit or for inspiration in museum programming have brought nuanced
attention to our society’s understanding, treatment and views of non-human
animals, even in death."

I'm wondering if you've had any experience of
mourning/remembering/memorializing/paying tribute to animals in your museum
- whether that's through an exhibit, an event, a program, an artifact
acquisition, etc. Which animal(s) did you remember/memorialize/pay tribute
to? How was this done? How did visitors react? Etc...

I'd really love to hear from you and might want to set up a short
interview.

Thanks so much!
