[Bonetools] no_bone

Dear all,

I am writing on behalf of an egyptologist working on the excavation 
project in the Nile Delta in Tell el-Dab'a, Egypt. I apologize to bother 
you, again, with objects which are not animal tissues, and possibly 
don't have to do anything with animals at all. But I know there are many 
well-seasoned hunters/trappers in the forum who may provide ideas.
Find attached pictures of Cypriot jars (2nd millenium BC), the necks of 
which have been broken off. Is is always (or at least on the 3 examples 
shown) on the fracture surfaces of the necks that radial 
modifications/striations/use wear could be detected. The marks are 
always limited to the fracture surfaces and the interior surface (see 
pictures). A first idea, after an initial foto, was rodent gnawing (if 
ever on pottery?), implying that some rats/mice would consume jar 
contents or sharpen their teeth. But neither the distribution nor the 
morphology of the marks does confirm this. The affected surface zones 
are also characterized by polish/shining. This all points towards a 
repeated action around/inside the openings or/and a secondary use of the 
broken-off jar necks. A colleague suggested that similar marks appear, 
on a much larger scale, on well walls, were buckets are repeatedly let down.
