[Bonetools] object unknown

Dear Marloes,

I believe that this is part of a barrel padlock. In the past I worked on
many from York, Hull and other medieval contexts. They are usually made of
iron plated in copper alloy. Here is one of them -
http://www.yorkarchaeology.co.uk/artefacts/padlock.htm. You have the barrel
but not the 'U' shaped bolt as shown in
http://www.yorkarchaeology.co.uk/artefacts/padlock3.htm.

All the best,

Sonia

Subject: [Bonetools] object unknown

 Dear all,

A very strange object which is apparently from the 14th century. Does it
look familiar to anyone? There is only one problem, the object itself is
lost and all we have is this photograph, so I don't have any more
information..

Best wishes and happy new year,
Marloes
