[Bonetools] FW: Jaffa bone comforter

Dear Etan,

 

It is still difficult to see the structural detail on the fracture sections of the large ring as the picture becomes pixelated when I enlarge the image.  However, I think I can see a vascular structures (appearing as small dark spots) in the fracture section in image jaffa-pacifier-section 3 and the damaged inner circumference of the ring in the image jaffa-pacifier-section 2 (attached). Blood vessels indicate bone, not ivory so all the elements in your photographs are bone.

Dear all,

Here are more photographs of the baby's comforter from Jaffa, Israel, from the beginning of the 20th century. Thank you Marloes and Heidi for the identification. We prepared photos of the sections as well, to make sure they are made of bone and not ivory.

 

Alice, we got permission to make it "the find of the month"!
