hi Francesco and everyone,
Large, curved antler needles are still used today and were common in
historic eras for that purpose across much of Siberia and in other areas.
I don't have the exact information on their location or cultural
affiliation with me at the moment, but let me know if that is of interest
and I can provide more info and some pictures when I am home. However,
they are quite large with perforations up to 6 or 7mm and dull tips. Most
that I have seen have similar dimensions as far as I recall right now. I
know that Aliette Lompre did some experimental work on bone tools used for
fishing and fish processing. Perhaps she could help.
