Dear Mr. Riddler,
I think that this artefacts were used like small plates which served as
decorative cladding of something - for example box, furniture,
interior-ornament etc.
As an example I send You a picture from book: Kokabi - Schlenker - Wahl
1996: "Knochenarbeit". Artefakte aus tierischen Rohstoffen im Wandel der
Zeit. Saalburg-Schriften 4.
