Hi Alice, A friend of mine needed a lot of documents for a visa to China, but succeeded eventually. This is some time ago, it is probably easier now. So I guess it shouldn't be a problem anymore? Marloes

Dear Marloes, Maybe I missed something but last year I could get a visa in a few hours to China - normally (with non-dummies who remember that they NEED a visa in due time). Here is information for a tourist visa for 30 days which is what you all need as issued by the embassy in Budapest.
Number of Entry
Citizens of Hungary and other countries
American citizens
Single Entry
8000Ft
32000Ft
Double Entry
12000Ft
32000Ft
Multiple Entry for 6 Months
16000Ft
32000Ft
Multiple Entry for 12 Months
24000Ft
32000Ft
The regular processing time is 4 working
days. For express service, additional fees of 7000Ft for 1 working
day processing (applications
presented before 10:30am may be picked up between 11:00-11:45am on the
same day), and 4500Ft for 2-3 working days processing will be charged. You must use the visa within 90 days of it being issued.
I guess the most difficult part is that everyone needs to go directly to this embassy at least although there are plenty of agencies who will do all the legwork for a fee. /
If i have missed something please correct me. I can ask Xiaolin directly if we needs some other kind of visa but I would be surprised. Cheers!

Dear all,
A visa for China requires a lot of paperwork and so on, but if we can get a formal invitation from a Chinese resident it is much easier. At least this accounts for Europe, but I am sure this also applies to America.
Best wishes,
Marloes

Hi Alice,
Doug and I are facing the same problem. We need to be in Honolulu for the
SAA, and we will try to go onward to China from there. I have a lighter teaching
load in the spring, so I can probably arrange the time off with some creativity.
My travel funds will take me as far as Honolulu, but Doug is retired and may
need some help. We are both so excited about the possibility of going to China.
We have some really interesting worked mandibles from a first millennium BCE
site in Uzbekistan. The site was excavated by a Chinese colleague, and she is
very anxious for us to present our work in China. We also have a Chinese PhD
student in zooarchaeology here at NYU this year, and she is going to try to make
it to the conference.
Do you know how we get a visa for China? Does this take a long time?

Dear Fotis,
Yeah, and an on-line journal means COLOR!! And unlimited
images. I will pass on this mad your desire of yours to help to Danny. As you
know there is never any shortage of work, only money.
Cheers!

Dear Petar,
Absolutely - this
part of the year is going to be really
exciting. Actually, Anna will be
in Moscow so if you ever had the urge
to visit your northern cousins this
is the time to do it. I flew to
China with Finnair via Helsinki and was
VERY satisfied. I suspect that
if you order the flight enough in advance
you can get rather cheap
rates. I am in a bit of a trouble over the China
trip and how I will
organize it because the previous week I must be in
Honolulu for the
SAA's. Danny Bar-Yosef and I will have a session on
beads and
ornaments. We are also seriously considering starting a
peer-reviewed
on-line journal for archaeological beads and ornaments so i
really
must make it some how to that meeting. Maybe my best bet will be
to go
to my father first and from there to Hionolulu and from there to
China
and then back but it may kill me.
Love,
Alice
PS
Xiaolin was very worried that no one will want to come. It was my
idea to
throw in the warriors. Zhengzhou is a horrible hole of a place
however
the provincial archaeology is totally and absolutely
unbelievable.
