Dear Alice,
together with Jorge Spangenberg (Uni Lausanne: Chemistry), Stefi and me, I want to present a paper about treatment of bone and antler artefacts. We have done chemical analysis of different freshly excavated artifacts. The results clearly show thta Neolithic craftmen had used plant oils to treat the artifact in use! This would mostly explain the highly polished brightnes of artifacts even if they have used them as chisel to work wood or antler. So this is a new analytical approach using modern isotopic analysis to answer technical questions of bone artifacts.
Please tell me if it is still possible to submit a presentation. I will the send the title and the abstract by end of march.
Best wishes to you all!
Joerg
