Dear Colleague
I am writing to advise you of two interdisciplinary conferences taking place at the University of Glasgow on 22 – 23 October 2011 and would be enormously grateful if you could pass the details on to all undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as staff, researchers and contacts affiliated with your department.
The Scottish Archaeological Forum (SAF) is hosting a conference on ‘The Experience of Technology’ (22-23 October) which explores all aspects of technology as a sensuous experience. Our keynote speaker (Prof. Olivier Gosselain) is an internationally renowned material culture specialist and speakers from across the world will present papers on a range of topics, including:
* The technologies of musical instruments,
* Bronze technologies in ancient China and
* The application of modern digital technologies to interpreting archaeological sites.
This is a multi-disciplinary conference which seeks to cross the academic divide to engage several disciplines, including archaeology, music, philosophy, engineering and the social sciences, amongst others. Please see our website for more information: http://www.scottisharchaeologicalforum.org.uk/conferences.html.
--------------------------------------------------------------
The Scottish Theoretical Archaeology Group (STAG) invites fellow postgraduate and early-career researchers to attend the fourth annual STAG conference on Saturday, 22 October. The conference will offer papers of academic excellence in all areas of archaeology, from prehistory through to the modern day.
Key themes:
* Theoretical approaches to archaeological research and materials
* The potentials and problems that arise when theoretical models and frameworks are applied to materials, data and/or interpretation
* Creatively exploring unexpected or under-emphasised theoretical aspects of one's research
Keynote speaker: Dr. Audrey Horning, Queens University Belfast
