The shape is reminiscent of Late Mesolithic (Ertebølle Culture) fishhooks from Denmark (see attached, scanned from: Andersen, S. H. 1987a. Tybrind Vig. A submerged Ertebølle settlement in Denmark. In J. M. Coles and A. J. Lawson (eds) European Wetlands in Prehistory, 253–280. Oxford, Clarendon Press … p. 270). The Swifterbant Culture of the Netherlands is often seen as a counterpart of the Danish Ertebølle.

It may be possible to date the hook by AMS 14C, and to establish the origin of the bone (species) using ZooMS (ZooArchaeology by Mass Spectrometry).
