Dear Marloes,

I have found some similar pieces from the late medieval Hungarian capital (Buda castle, see attached photos) and I suppose  to be a  type of bordure (for example furniture, or box etc.).

Best regards,

Marta

Marloes.
May it be raw material to cover chembalo claviature keys or perhaps
to make domino peaces. They were often made  as a sandwich of one
layer of bone and one layer of ebony fastened together with a tiny
    ravet.
