Once again a query frorm someone not on the list so you need to address your
replies to both her and the list. To get the ball rolling though - what
about these being bones for extracting tallow for water-proofing tanned
hides?

Dear Alice!
I am writing to you because you are my last hope :)
I have some strange worked bones, actually 3 of them, from 3 different pits,
Late Bronze Age from near Nyíregyháza, which remind me of torches - they are
sharpened at the diaphyseal part, have a hole at the epiphysis and burned
inside (I attach the photo of one of them).
I have never seen anything like this before, and never met it either in my
readings, maybe you have, can you give me some reference or maybe give me
(another) idea of what might have been their purpose? I found it like 3-4
years ago, but I will publish the material this year, and I did not give
birth to any better idea during these years...
Thank you!
Kind regards: Elisabeth
