Thank you for this Isabelle. All the other datable bone finds I’ve been sent from this site are Roman but it is always good to be reminded that similar shapes can turn up at any period and that material, function and shape can go hand in hand.

For your information: a drawing of a bone Neolithic "pin" (?), which strikinglylooks like tothe bigger oneof yours.
This type corresponds to a production which takes place on a very small regional and chronological area: around Stuttgart, Early Linear Pottery Culture "Flomborn" (-5300/5400 BC).
It can be found in toumbs and settlements.
