Hi, Alice

I have a Roman piece from Porolissum that could be worth putting on a calendar. The pocket knife handle depicting Eros riding a dolphin is one of the most beautiful Roman bone carvings from the province of Dacia. It is dated in the 2nd -3rd century AD and it comes from the big auxiliary fort from Porolissum. You can decide if it is unique enough to "represent" a month in 2010.

Anne -Clearly it would be very worthwhile trying to identify species and skeletal element for these combs more closely. How much seal bone is used in the Orkneys anyway?
