Subject: [ZOOARCH] ivory clasp knife decorated with gladiators

Hi all,

OK not strictly archaeozoology but I hope you will have a look and maybe
pass my question around to Roman archaeologists you might know or which
happen to work in the same building. A decorated part of an ivory clasp knife
was found in the Roman town at Caerwent, Wales depicting two fighting
gladiators. After an extensive literature search and a thorough browse of the
internet, I couldn't find any similar knife handles. The only ones I could find
were of single gladiators (from England, France and Germany). My question
thus is, are there any Roman knives out there which depict two gladiators?
Land of origin doesn't matter as I am grateful for any you can come up with
(this includes copper alloy ones, bone ones etc)! A picture is posted on

Best wishes and many thanks, Jessica Grimm
