Dear Pierre,
      The crannog was a replica of an Iron Age house lake-dwelling structure. 
The archaeologist has found large numbers of wooden objects in 
underwater excavation. Whether the fire-making objects were also found I 
do not know. During the demonstration the boy used a bow drill in a board 
with prepared holes in it (to keep the point steady). Fire was produced on a 
small amount of dried shelf-fungus. The embers produced were then  put in 
the wooden container to make the fire. It was very, very impressive to my 
wimpy 21st century eyes.
