Dear Pierre,
     Sorry, I didn't express myself very well. Luckily I just saw a wooden
example of what I mean at  the crannog reconstruction on Lake Tay in
Scotland. The trough-like container holds hot embers and dry tinder. There
is a small hole in the short end the boy is gently blowing into. The Italian
objects looks unfinished to me. In any case this was only a hypothesis on my
part.
