Dear Everyone,
Below is a copy of the main text of the third circular. I am
sending along a snail mail version as well. Hopefully you will be able to
read it either as an attached file or as a letter )(without formatting). I am
looking forward to hearing from you in simple yes or no form, either
electronically or by regular mail or fax as soon as possible.

Alice

2nd Meeting of the Worked Bone Research Group
Budapest 31 August - 5 September 1999

CIRCULAR III

In order to make sure that everyone receives final information before
the field season and vacations start, we decided to send you this last
circular relatively early. Please reconfirm its receipt electronically or
otherwise by June 30th. We will circulate a last minute message in
August and let you know eventual minor changes. This is, however,
the last circular with detailed practical information.

Timetable
(unchanged)

Arrival/registration: 31 August, Tuesday at Hotel Lejtõ from 12 to 9 pm
Papers/discussions: 1, 2 and 4 September
Visit and reception at the Aquincum Museum: 2 September, PM.
Excursion: 3 September, Friday
Optional farewell dinner in a nearby restaurant: 4 September, evening.
Departure: 5 September, Sunday

The conference will be held at the resort of the Agricultural Ministry
(„FMGH” on enclosed map), in a residential area in Buda. The
management would provide very reasonable housing in the form of 10
double rooms with two meals (breakfast, lunch) and the lecture room is
within the building. Thus, we could spend most of the day together
without having to move around and inevitably disperse. Everyone is
requested to pay for lunch tickets on conference days (HUF 1200 or
DM 10/USD 5 daily) regardless of whether they live in the main venue
or not because experience has shown that handling meals individually
is too complicated and leads to chaos (delayed daily pre-ordering,
cancellations etc.).
The number of rooms available at the main venue has
decreased by 5 since the time of Circular II. We will be able to make
excess reservations in a nearby Pension (3 min. just around the corner,
„Pension” in map) for a comparable price (HUF 9000 with breakfast)
and will encourage those coming with their spouses to stay there.
Hopefully, this will cause no inconvenience. Some participants may
eventually have to stay in a triple but I will try and keep this a minimum
and put people who know each other together like this. There is also
„Hotel Walzer”, 10 minutes by foot from the conference venue for a
price of ca. DM 130 (US$ 90) per head.
It would be possible to rent a bus for an excursion if enough
people can pay an extra 3,450 HUF (DM 29/USD 15) for a visit to the
reconstructed Bronze Age village with nearby Iron tumuli in the morning
and visit the remains of a provincial Roman town (Gorsium) in the
afternoon. Everyone would buy lunch separately that day in a
restaurant during the trip.
We will ask you to sign up for the optional farewell dinner
upon registration.

Please note the following approximate costs (slight changes may be
caused by devaluation):

Item HUF DM USD Note
Registration fee 6,000 50 26
Housing w/breakfast 4,500 38 20 Double
room for HUF 9,000/night
Housing total 22,500 190 100 Per capita for a
maximum of 5 nights
Lunches 3,600 30 16 3 days, excl. excursion day
Bus rent for excursion 3,450 29 15 subject to
minor changes

Transportation

1/ Those arriving by plane should use the door-to-door Airport Minibus
Service, which is by far the most reliable and efficient way of reaching
your destination. You can sign up as soon as you left the Passport
checkpoint. For the time being, a single ride costs HUF 1200 (DM 10,
USD 5.2). Taking a taxi, especially from the airport, is not
recommended owing to „uncertain” pricing.

2/ A similar Minibus Service is available from Keleti („Eastern”) Railway
Station. Its office is near Track 9, next to the Police station.

At both places please give the address: Hotel Lejtõ, 1124 Lejtõ út 28.

Those who foresee arriving by car should note that Hegyalja str.
(marked on the enclosed map) is crossing the main road coming from
Vienna at Hotel Novotel, under an overpass. At this point one should
keep to the left lane, turn left across the tram tracks and drive uphill on
the serpentine-like Hegyalja str. Following a sharp right hand curve and
a traffic light (at Food shop 1 on the map) Hotel Lejtõ with its green roof
may be spotted at the 2nd bus stop (sharp right hand turn backward
into Lejtõ str.)

Conference registration (for everyone) will take place on 31 August,
Tuesday, at Hotel Lejtõ from 12 to 9 pm. Should you be arriving at a
different time, please indicate it in time so that we can assist you
properly.

Manuscripts

As mentioned previously, Archaeopress (a.k.a. BAR) would
be a good medium for publishing our conference proceedings. For this
purpose, however, it is indispensable that everyone arrives with
manuscripts prepared following the guidelines enclosed again. Our
special request would be to receive manuscripts in PC compatible Rich
Text Format that would immensely facilitate basic editing work.

It is of vital importance to keep in touch.
Please reconfirm the receipt of this third circular in time!
Should you have questions, please contact us as soon as possible.
